I have always loved magazines.
When I was a little girl, I would accompany my mom to the grocery store for the sole purpose of sitting at the magazine rack and reading about all my favorite stars like Madonna, Michael J. Fox, Kirk Cameron, River Phoenix, Duran Duran, and so many more. I would spend hours paging through 16Magazine, Bop, People and Rolling Stone looking for articles to read and pictures to memorize.
During the summer, she would take us to the library. I was a voracious reader and would check out 8 books at a time (the library max for kids). While my sisters were browsing the kid’s section, I would sneak off to the magazine section and look at the Absolut Ads. I was fascinated by them.
I still love magazines. My house is a virtual newsstand with over 20 magazine subscriptions. I still love going to Borders and Barnes & Noble and browsing the magazine section. I especially love that they carry a decent foreign selection of magazines. My last trip to Borders yeilded this crop of UK knitting magazines.
Simply Knitting is great. A simple magazine with easy and functional patterns, it has great photographs and an ask the Editor section that always gives me a giggle. They also include a free gift with each issue! For June, I got 2 free cable needles! The other magazine is called Knitting. It is also from the UK and its layout is much like Simply Knitting… so much so, that I thought they were the same magazine. I wasn’t as impressed with Knitting (I actually thought it was a bad issue of Simply Knitting until I realized they were 2 different magazines!) but will defintiely keep purchasing Simply Knitting as I find it.
Subscriptions to the US can be purchased, but they are pricey. I don’t mind paying $8.99US at Borders or Barnes & Noble,
