Philadelphia Restaurant Week: September 18-23, 2005

Last year, I was fortunate to attend only one night of Restaurant Week. It was when Joe and Melissa took me out for my birthday dinner. We chose the Plough and the Stars and actually had no idea it was Restaurant Week. The three of us enjoyed the special menu chosen for the occasion where guests are able to choose from a scaled down menu of 1 appetizer, 1 main course and 1 dessert for $30. It is a great way to try out those expensive restaurants when there is a bit of a budget to consider.

This year’s list is quite extensive- 86 restaurants are participating! I have five chosen and since it is my birthday week, my wish is to have someone join me each night for a dinner at a participating restaurant.

The list of restaurants is extensive and the online grid has menus in most cases. I am looking forward to sampling from places I would never be able to go to at regular price!

Some of the restaurants I would like to hit are: Audrey Claire; Friday, Saturday, Sunday; Twenty21; Tangerine; and Fork.  I am sure as the week draws near, my choices will change.

Definitely try to get into Fork! Last year, for Restaurant Week, I went to Matyson. The special menu was essentially the same as the regular menu – fantastic! And, you know what a real steal is – the Bar Lyonnaise at Le Bec Fin. You have to call early, but its a BARGAIN.
    Happy eating.
