New Knits on the Block is a "guide to knitting what kids really want"… and after browsing through this book, I can say that if I was a kid in the 5-12 age bracket, I would think my mom was pretty darn cool if she knitted me some of these patterns. Written by the host of DYI’s Knitty Gritty, Vicki Howell, the book is comprised of patterns that could pass as Halloween costumes, dress up outfits as well as really cool bedroom accessories for kids’ rooms.
The book is FULL of unique and inspired patterns for kids. Very clever ideas include a Mermaid Dress Up outfit, a Knight’s Chainmail pullover and some very cute Alien Toothfairy pillows! And what little boy wouldn’t want his very own Superhero cape? I even found a pattern that I would knit for myself: the Carryall Chameleon Illusion Backpacks in either a pig or frog design. I’m also oddly drawn to the knitted bowling ball and bowling pins.
Definitely check this book out if you are a mom (or dad!) looking for some inspiration. It’s a bargain over at amazon.com, where you can pick it up for $10.17.
