Loop – Islington, London

I spent the Thanksgiving holidays in the UK… it was a good excuse to get away for a little while and since my family lives in Florida and I’ll be heading down there for the Christmas Holidays, I didn’t have any of that family pressure to spend the long weekend with anyone in particular.

On my list of places to check out was Loop. They are located in Islington and I had a few other destinations in that neighborhood, so stopping by fit right in my plan.

A short walk from the Angel tube station and I found the shop tucked away off Essex Road. Warm lighting and beautiful yarns greeted me when I walked in the door. It’s a small space and there was a woman with a baby in a stroller shopping as well, so it was a tight squeeze. I made my way around the shop and spotted the familiar Noro, Colinette and Rowan yarns. I browsed the book selection, but was most impressed with the variety of already knit pieces and knitting related items for sale.

The samples were gorgeous; baby sweaters, booties, blankets, cashmere gloves and a set of earthenware vases that looked like they had been pressed into knitted fiber, giving them a knitted texture. Pretty cool, but not something I thought I could easily transport back to the States without a total disaster.

The shop has a nice space out in front with a table and chairs, which I would imagine to be quite lovely to sit and knit when the weather is nice.
